The Ministry of Universities and Research, MUR, has developed an innovative tool for the third level of university education, the DIN - Doctorate in Research of National Interest, DIN.
These types of doctoral programmes are new not only for Italy but also at European level: they complement the traditional PhD programmes, being based on the aggregation of skills benefiting from a critical mass and national coordination, sharing resources and infrastructure, and ensuring access to even the smallest sites, playing a similar thematic training role as national schools.
The DIN’s objective is to create networks of young researchers, selected to high standards and trained on homogeneous and interdisciplinary research topics, thereby bridging academic and industrial research and reducing fragmentation; Helping to make our university system, and therefore our country, more competitive at international level by aiming to join the European Doctoral Network.
The project of a PhD of National Interest in Visual Arts, Performing Arts, New Media, New Technologies, Music & Cultural Heritage, activated by institutions AFAM (High Artistic, Musical and Social Education) It represents a unique opportunity for AFAM institutions to consolidate their role in the academic and cultural landscape, promoting excellence in research and arts training. This programme will not only help to train a new generation of scholars and professionals, but will also influence the dialogue between art, technology and society, responding to the needs and challenges of the contemporary world.
Accademia Italiana adheres to the curriculum in Innovation, Technologies and New Materials for Arts, with the aim of developing research into new materials and technologies in creative arts and design.
Doctoral Curriculum in Innovation, Technologies and New Materials for Arts
The curriculum in Innovation, Technologies and New Materials for the Arts is an interdisciplinary programme that explores the interaction between art, science and technology, preparing artists and researchers to explore the frontiers of contemporary creativity. Designed to train innovative figures, the curriculum focuses on using advanced technologies and cutting-edge materials in artistic creation.
The programme is divided into three main areas: technological innovation, materials research and artistic applications. Doctoral students examine how new technologies can transform artistic practice, exploring fields such as digital art, 3D printing, augmented and virtual reality. The research component is fundamental, encouraging PhD students to develop projects that integrate creativity and technical experimentation. Projects may involve the development of new sustainable materials, the application of innovative techniques in the preservation of works of art, or the creation of interactive installations involving the public in new ways.
Through workshops, PhD students acquire practical skills in the use of advanced tools and technologies. Collaboration with engineers, materials scientists and technology professionals enriches the learning experience, fostering a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach.
The curriculum also promotes critical reflection on the ethical and cultural implications of the use of new technologies in the arts. Doctoral students are encouraged to consider the impact of their creative choices on the environment and society, developing a responsible and conscious artistic practice.
