Rome, March 12, 2025 - Armadilly's textile art reveals the pop side of digital identity

An exhibition that explores contemporary themes, from social media to self-representation, through the textile and installation language of one of the most promising artists of the emerging national scene

Rome, March 12, 2025

Accademia Italiana, in collaboration with Spazio Studi Arte, inaugurates the solo exhibition of Armadilly, an emerging artist on the contemporary scene, titled "Look at me, I am the sun!", curated by Gemma Gulisano. The exhibition, which will open to the public from March 14 to April 11, 2025, will be hosted in the exhibition spaces of the Rome headquarters of Accademia Italiana, via dello Scalo San Lorenzo 10, with a vernissage on March 14 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

On display for the first time, a new body of textile and installation works conceived and created by Armadilly, born Camilla Cesarini (born in 1995), with an artistic research that merges textile art, pop aesthetics and references to the digital world. Her works break free from the traditional constraints of the loom and the frame, transforming into vignettes woven with wool and cotton yarns, capable of telling ironic and profound stories about contemporary society.

Through bright colors and iconic shapes, Armadilly explores the mechanisms of self-representation in social media, the need for validation and the insecurities of digital identity.

"In my work I talk about social media and bored teenagers who post themselves on Instagram, I talk about myself and how I relate to the digital universe, I talk about my body, how I see myself in the mirror and how I would like others to see me."

To complete the exhibition project, Armadilly will hold a workshop dedicated to the Punch Needle technique, open to students of the Accademia Italiana. The workshop will offer a unique opportunity to explore this artistic practice and experiment with the creation of textile works under the guidance of the artist.

With this initiative, Accademia Italiana confirms its vocation for experimentation and the promotion of new voices in contemporary art. Through the exhibition, the Institute renews its commitment to supporting a generation of creatives who interpret visual culture in an innovative way, fostering dialogue between emerging artists, students and professionals in the sector, offering a dynamic and inclusive vision of art and design.
