The New Intelligence of Made in Italy

Italy has long been globally recognized for its ability to blend technological innovation with artisanal excellence, creating products that unite advanced technology with superior craftsmanship.
The New Vision of Made in Italy project revolves around three key pillars: craftsmanship, artificial intelligence, and social and ethical innovation tied to the arts and applied arts.

Manual intelligence
This refers to the skill of transforming raw materials into high-quality creations. Thanks to the driving force of design, Italy is home to unique artisanal excellence.

Artificial intelligence
This cutting-edge technology is rapidly becoming part of everyday life, offering extraordinary opportunities for the future.

Social intelligence
This encompasses the ability of a project to adhere to principles of environmental sustainability, accessibility, and inclusivity, embracing cultural and social diversity.

The central goal of NIMI is to bring Made in Italy back to the global stage, providing an international audience of designers with the tools to adopt these "intelligences" that have made our production system renowned worldwide.
Through the internationalization of the AFAM sector, it will be possible to promote Italian excellence in applied arts, creative media, and digital arts, with a particular focus on leveraging new technologies and artificial intelligence.

The NIMI project partnership connects design institutions across Italy, from the North to the South. In each region, the most significant experiences in the three areas will be analyzed to initiate in-depth research into how technological innovation and social policies can foster the growth of Made in Italy. Five project partners represent different AFAM sectors, supported by the research expertise of the University of Salerno.

The project’s initial phase will include activities centered on the three "intelligences." Students will create prototypes in collaboration with local communities, serving as the foundation for a dialogue with international designers and creatives. These interactions will foster the development of ideas to make Made in Italy a global concept, designed everywhere. This initiative will be supported by individual mobility programs and international workshops organized during major events related to Made in Italy, both in Italy and abroad.

Communication and dissemination will play a crucial role in triggering a virtuous cycle where new ambassadors, creators, and influencers will promote the New Made in Italy. This innovative approach will see craftsmanship engaging with cutting-edge technologies, opening up new educational and creative horizons.

The New Vision of Made in Italy project (INTAFAM_00025) C.U.P. H37G24000080001 is funded by the PNRR and is part of the Ministerial Directive 124/2023 of the Ministry of University and Research.
